Intermittent Fasting Part 2


I am not telling you to eat just one meal a day, but I want to show you how powerful intermittent fasting is, and dispel a number of myths…. like we have to eat every few hours, and we need animal products. Meet Dr. Nun. S. Amen-Ra, a world weightlifting champion who only eats one VEGAN meal a day.

How is this possible? Because he takes his diet and lifestyle seriously. And he does not eat meat or any animal products. And no sugar. This is the exact opposite of almost everyone in the modern world, who eat nothing but animal products, sugar and refined foods from the moment they get up to the moment they go to sleep. People keep nibbling on bits of food all day long, and that's part of the problem, especially those with weight issues.

Many may find it difficult to believe he only eats 1000-1500 calories a day, especially with all that muscle. It’s very similar to the cars and airplanes today that have twice the power and only use half the fuel of those from 30 years ago. It’s all about efficiency- making full use of every drop of fuel. Cara and I don’t count calories, we just feel what we need. It’s not about HOW MUCH we eat, but WHAT we eat.

Dr. Amen-Ra is the extreme example of human discipline. He does not want or expect us all to be like him- but he does want us to learn from his example. Nothing beats real life proof. No her does not do steroids. He doesn’t have to. The body creates plenty of growth hormone naturally with intermittent fasting and high quality sleep.

Big muscles are not that important to him, they are simply the byproduct of his lifestyle. His real interest is maximum life extension and quality of life.

This is just as important for older women as younger men. Muscles, hormones and health should not fade away as much as they do as we get older. Weight bearing resistance exercises increase human growth hormone which helps keep us young. Not doing them leads to everything from bone loss to aging and heart attacks. This is different than aerobics/cardio. You can’t just go for a 30 minute walk or jog and think you got your exercise for the day. No, you need to actually push and pull some weight, even if it’s just the weight of your body.

So what is his regimen? Watch the video for a detailed explanation, but in a nutshell, he does not eat for 23 hours a day. He eats very late in the day (not recommended for most people who don’t follow his extreme protocol) Aerobic (cardio) exercises once or twice a day. Resistance (weight) exercises at night with integrated yoga postures in between sets. His gym exercises are no different than anyone else’s. Meditation throughout the day. Herbal tea throughout the day- no sugar- only sweetening with stevia (my zero calorie sweetener would work here also)

His 3-part meal at the end of the day takes less than one hour. The first part of the meal is a bunch of plant-based powdered vitamins, minerals and amino acids similar to my green formula and protein formula that supplies all the nutrition needed for the day. The main meal often has some form of nuts, beans, rice, soy etc. The main purpose of this part of the meal is to feel full and enjoy eating. (The real nutrition was in part one). The third part of the meal is a simple desert, two favorites are nuts covered in dark chocolate or “peanut butter sandwich” made with crudely crushed peanuts and fruit preserves. A simple stress-free life (he trains some people who are seriously committed to this) and gets paid for his books on a donation basis. He has written ten donation-based books detailing each aspect of the lifestyle. These books are very scientifically wordy and not for anyone wanting a quick fix, they are only for serious people with a lot of discipline. Obviously this is not for most people who are too caught up in the modern world of comfort and instant gratification, but there is a lot to learn from this man who has mastered his life. It’s nice to see what is possible. Hopefully it can inspire us a little bit more in the right direction, even if it means not eating for as long as we can after we wake up… or standing more instead of sitting… or not eating meat, milk, cheese, eggs, fish or animal products anymore… or cutting down our addiction for sweet things. Every little bit we do helps improve the rest of our lives.
